Sketching the Temples of Angkor

August 13, 2012

Stone sentinels stood on guard, their watch lasting nearly a thousand years. They growled with fierce monkey heads, armed with swords, helmeted and armoured in stone scales. Apsara, Angkor dancers, added their watch over the temples.

Monks, jars and dinosaur bones in Laos – A trip from north to south

July 31, 2012

The slow boat collided softly with the tyres bound to the ferry port at Luang Prabang, and the tourist horde disembarked, stretching and yawning. Caramel waves chased each other down the Mekong like energetic children playing tag. It was nice to have finally arrived.

This is Goryokaku Star Fort, a 19th century fort in Hakodate, Japan. One of only two European-style star forts in Japan, Goryokaku has since been converted into a public park. It's also one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in Hokkaido! πŸŒΈπŸŒΈπŸŒΈπŸ―πŸ―πŸ―πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅
Somewhere in South Africa, along the Garden Route, we came across this huge warthog sign on the side of the highway. We didn't see any of the little piggies along the way, but this rare street sign was a great discovery nevertheless! πŸ—πŸ·πŸ”ΊπŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦
In Namibia, it was usual to find these great road signs warning us of kudu prancing across the road. We didn't see any, however, as the country involved a lot of highway driving through featureless deserts... πŸ‡³πŸ‡¦πŸ¦ŒπŸš§πŸ”» StickyMangoRice.com
Giraffe crossing! We came across this sign during our road trip through Tanzania, just outside Mikumi National Park. A few hundred metres later, a herd of giraffes stopped traffic as they crossed the road in search of trees to munch on on this rainy day. πŸ¦’πŸ¦’πŸ¦’πŸš§ StickyMangoRice.com
Shakespeare and Co Bookshop in Paris, a classic old bookshop near the Notre Dame de Paris. Opened in 1951, it specialises in selling English books, and lets people sleep in the store in exchange for work (and contributing to their 'tumbleweeds' diary)!
This piece of Penang street art by @ernestzacharevic is The Boy and his Motorbike, located on Ah Quee Street. It uses a real motorbike fixed against the old unused door to give this work a real life quality. Painted against the beautiful faded red wood of the door, a young boy relaxes on the motorbike seat wearing an oversized helmet.
