Hi, my name’s Derrick Theys! I’m an Australian, born in Sydney and a scientist by profession. Together with my wife Cindy, we have friends and family all around the world (not to mention a never-ending thirst for travel), so we always have an excuse to jump on a plane. I don’t have any formal training in art, but it’s been a passion of mine since I was a kid. Sketching, drawing, painting, sculpting – you name it – I love to get into any kind of creative endeavour that I can.
StickMangoRice is in the process of transitioning from a regular travel blog to an illustrated travel blog at the moment. All my old blog photographs will be replaced with illustrations, so please check back regularly!
Why Sticky Mango Rice?
Sticky Mango Rice was a dish that Cindy and I enjoyed for breakfast one morning in Laos. The dish is sliced mango, served with rice cooked with coconut and sugar. To me, it represented everything that I love about travel – it’s colourful, it’s exotic, it invoked a sense of lightness and simplicity – and besides, trying new foods is one of the best things about travel!
